As part of a dynamic team, GBL Engineers contribute to all aspects of the software development process, which includes requirements definition, design, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, and in-service support to various US and Foreign Military customers. Qualified candidates should have a working level of understanding of software development, unit testing, peer reviews and configuration management. Successful applicants should have the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in an embedded government/contractor team environment. Qualified candidates must be self-starters with the ability to work independently without close supervision. Applicants should exhibit excellent interpersonal and oral/written communications skills. Ideal candidates will be expected to mentor junior engineers and influence the structure of an established dynamic team.

We are seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Lead Systems Engineer to oversee the systems engineering and systems architecture efforts across complex software intensive projects involving modern agile practices leveraging cloud and AI technologies.

As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will guide a multidisciplinary development team through the full systems engineering lifecycle - from concept development and requirements definition to architecture, prototyping, integration, and deployment. This role requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to engage with senior stakeholders across multiple services and agencies.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Lead the design, development, and implementation of a cross-organization scheduler to support scheduling deconfliction across the DoD enterprise.
Develop and maintain end-to-end system architecture for large-scale, mission-critical applications.
Translate business and operational requirements into scalable and secure technical architectures.
Lead technical design reviews and architectural governance matters.
Perform system-level trade studies and analysis to support design decisions.
Create and maintain architecture roadmaps, ensuring alignment with project and enterprise goals.
Develop and maintain system architectures, technical requirements, interface definitions, and design documentation.
Coordinate across stakeholders from various service organizations, industry, and academia to align user needs and system requirements.
Evaluate and select technologies and methodologies that best support enterprise-scale scheduling, data fusion, decision support, and resource optimization.
Manage system integration with existing scheduling tools, mission planning tools, communications, command and control systems, ERP systems, and legacy data sets.

Oversee the development and implementation of a Continuous Development/Continuous Integration Environment and Technology Evaluation Sandbox to assess and mature both technology and products to be integrated into the DoD range ecosystem.
Oversee the execution of system integration, testing, verification, and validation.
Develop and execute risk management plans and system security strategies in accordance with DoD cybersecurity policies.
Provide regular technical briefings and updates to senior leadership and cross-organization coordination forums.

Requirements:

U.S. Citizen and ability to attain security clearance.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems architecture, software integration, Infrastructure, Systems Design, or enterprise system development.
Deep understanding of Systems Architecture, including Distributed Systems, Scalability Design, Architectural Artifacts depicting relationships, interfaces, operational concepts, requirements, and standards.
Expertise with systems modeling and documentation tools.
Proficiency in cloud architecture.
Strong experience in networking principles and components
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Demonstrated experience with large-scale scheduling systems, command and control tools, or mission planning platforms.
Familiarity with data integration and modern API frameworks.
Experience with AI/ML techniques for optimization and decision support.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo or Rhapsody.
Knowledge of Joint Mission Environment Test Capability (JMETC), EWSAP, or related DoD scheduling environments.
Knowledge of DoD test and training infrastructure, particularly MRTFB operations and range coordination.

Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and executives
Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams in complex technical environments
Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading architecture review boards
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality solutions under pressure

Salary Range: $119,189 USD to $185,000 USD. Salary is based on current qualifications, related experience, and contractual requirements which could fall outside of this range.
